Zechariah 10

I can almost picture Zechariah 10 happening.

No, let me correct that. I HAVE seen at least part of Zechariah 10 with my own eyes. It is truly amazing to me how Israel has become the nation that it is today.

But, I get ahead of myself. Let’s dive into the chapter first.

Zechariah 10

1 Ask ye of Jehovah rain in the time of the latter rain, even of Jehovah that maketh lightnings; and he will give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.

2 For the teraphim have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie; and they have told false dreams, they comfort in vain: therefore they go their way like sheep, they are afflicted, because there is no shepherd.

3 Mine anger is kindled against the shepherds, and I will punish the he-goats; for Jehovah of hosts hath visited his flock, the house of Judah, and will make them as his goodly horse in the battle.

4 From him shall come forth the corner-stone, from him the nail, from him the battle bow, from him every ruler together.

It is tempting to try and see something prophetic from these four verses. I know far too many commentators who try to make something special about every verse – and do great damage to the bible while they are at it.

Suffice it to say that the Lord speaks truth here through Zechariah. But, unless someone can point out the prophetic nature of this truth… Well, it’s not prophetic.

Not so, for the rest of the chapter.

5 And they shall be as mighty men, treading down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight, because Jehovah is with them; and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

This was really the first time when we see the New Jew – a kind of Jew that we hadn’t seen for almost two thousand years. This ‘New Jew’ no longer tolerated being pushed around. This ‘New Jew’ was not going to let the Holocaust happen to them without a fight.

This was the kind of Jew that fought in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in the 1940s. This was the Jew that fought in the French Resistance and on the beaches of Normandy.

6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them back; for I have mercy upon them; and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am Jehovah their God, and I will hear them.

7 And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine; yea, their children shall see it, and rejoice; their heart shall be glad in Jehovah.

All that you have to do to see that this prophecy is fulfilled is to look at population numbers. Israel never had more than three million people living within the borders of the Land of Israel – which includes Gaza, Judea and Samaria. Today, within those borders there are more than NINE MILLION.

Never in the history of the world have so many lived in Israel. It truly is as if Jehovah had not cast them off.

8 I will hiss for them, and gather them; for I have redeemed them; and they shall increase as they have increased.

9 And I will sow them among the peoples; and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and shall return.

God did sow the Jews in every part of the world. As I mentioned before, there is even mention of a Jewish general in Taiwan during the Ming dynasty. And yes, Taiwan really is at the end of the world – historically and geographically speaking.

But, even the Jews of China remember who they are and feel the call to return to Israel.

10 I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt, and gather them out of Assyria; and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; and place shall not be found for them.

11 And he will pass through the sea of affliction, and will smite the waves in the sea, and all the depths of the Nile shall dry up; and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart.

12 And I will strengthen them in Jehovah; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith Jehovah.

The prophecy of Isaiah 19 has yet to be fulfilled, so yes the Nile really will dry up. And, when that happens, the leadership position that Egypt holds in the Arab world will also dry up.

And, the pride of Assyria has already been brought down with the bringing down of Saddam Hussein, and may be brought down further in the coming years.

I look forward to the day when Israelis will walk up and down in the name of Jehovah.
